A Witchy Night
My mother-in-law invited me to go with her (and her daughter and her friend) to Gardner Village’s Witchfest. Wearing witch hats was mandatory:
We had a great time seeing everyone in witch costumes. Some people REALLY got into the dressing up and their dresses and hats were so amazing.
We felt like we were with a celebrity because everyone wanted their picture taken with my mother-in-law, the White Witch. She even got a videotaped interview with…someone…we’re still not quite sure who:
We ran into someone we knew who told us he’d be changing into a costume later that evening. We met up with him to get pictures taken. (He’s the creature behind us wearing stilts and a mask.)
We also happened upon Glinda the Good Witch and felt it only right that we get a picture of her and the White Witch together:
It was a very nice way to spend the evening. Thanks for inviting me!
Art by Brooke
Brooke’s artwork has continued to bring a smile to my face. One day she came home from school talking about music class. As she was prattling on, she drew the following picture. I was amazed that she knew the f meant to sing loudly and the p meant to be quieter. She even had the crescendo and decrescendo drawn out!
This is a house that she drew. The green triangles are bells. They are attached to the doorknobs by strings so when you open the door, the bell rings:
Occasionally I will find doodles on Brooke’s schoolwork. That’s a seesaw that she drew under her name:
I asked Brooke about the following doodles. She said that in the brown box she was trying to draw Wall-E to show the girl sitting next to her but she ran out of space. The blue rectangle was a game board and the smaller rectangle is the deck of cards to draw from:
What are those scribbles above the R? A roller coaster:
Here’s Dallas coming home from work. That’s a heart above his head:
Here’s Brooke in her bed at night thinking about her best friend, Ania, who we moved away from. Brooke is still deeply mourning that loss:
And finally, Brooke made a robot:
We had parent teacher conferences tonight with Brooke’s kindergarten teacher. Her teacher remarked about how creative Brooke is. I think I definitely agree!
A Quick Video
We went up Timpanogos as a family to enjoy the leaves and to film some stock footage. I threw this together with the footage.
Potpourri
Time for another round of potpourri!
On the 4th of July the scouts put flags up in the yards that had donated money. Since we had just moved in, we hadn’t made our contribution so we didn’t get a flag. Brooke was feeling left out so she took matters into her own hands:
Spencer had a run-in with a marker and it left him looking like he was wearing an earring. All day I did a double take when I saw him. (Yes, that’s right, I said all day. I purposely didn’t wash his ear because I was so amused by my gangster baby.) He’s looking at a fly in this picture which is what is making him so excited:
He’s looking at me in this picture. I guess I’m as exciting as a fly!
I can’t remember what Brooke was doing here. Something creative as usual:
Brooke has declared roly polies as her favorite bug. She was out in the backyard and found tons of them:

Spencer loves cars. He constantly has to have a car in his hand and he has to roll it over every surface he can. I think it’s adorable:
Brooke had Dress-Like-A-Pirate day at school:
Brooke was invited to her friend’s birthday party. A unicorn magically appeared and all the kids got to ride it:
Brooke went through a phase where she insisted she wash all the dishes. Unfortunately, that phase didn’t last very long:
Caroline had fun with markers:
Caroline found my oxcart wheels and used them to conduct her own nursery singing time:
Then Brooke got ahold of the wheels and her oxcart evolved yet again!
