Kid Stories
Dallas makes fun of me because sometimes I write blog posts but then never publish them. They just sit in my drafts folder gathering dust for months for no apparent reason. I have no idea why I do this.
Luckily, last October I wrote the following kid stories down. I had forgotten a couple of them.
#1: Brooke and Caroline Learn How to Speak
More specifically, they learned how to say the “th” sound. Before, they were saying “f” instead of “th”. Now, it’s often as if the letter “f” doesn’t exist and they replace almost every “f” sound with “th”.
Examples:
“Can I have some thruit snacks?”
“Can we make cookies athter we pick up Brooke from school?”
And my favorite one involved Dallas. He’ll tickle torture the kids and make them say, “Daddy, Daddy, let me free!” before he stops. During this f/th confusion, Brooke said, “Daddy, Daddy, let me three!”
Dallas said, “That’s not the right password!”
Brooke, confused and through shrieks of laughter said, “Daddy, Daddy, let me four?”
#2: Bear Gets a New Name
Anyone who knows Brooke well knows she loves her bear with all her heart. Since the beginning of school she’s been dying to bring Bear to school. On more than one occasion I’ve had to check her backpack as she’s headed to her class to confiscate her bear. One week it was her turn for show and tell. The letter of the week was M and the students’ show and tell is supposed to start with the letter they are studying. Brooke really wanted to bring her bear. She came up to me and said, “Mom, I think Bear’s new name is going to be Monkey. Monkey starts with M so I can bring him for show and tell!”
(After school I asked if Bear’s name was still Monkey. Her answer? “No. I just needed to call him that so I could take him to school today.”)
#3: Brooke Envies French Children
You’ll recall Brooke is in a French immersion class. One day she didn’t want to go to school. She sighed and said, “French kids are lucky. They don’t have to go to school because they already know French!”
#4: The Battle of the Water Bottle
Brooke takes a water bottle to school. Spencer LOVES her water bottle and is always trying to get it. It probably goes without saying, but Brooke doesn’t like it when Spencer gets her water bottle. One day Brooke left her bottle on the floor in front of the door. I warned her that Spencer would get it and if she didn’t want him to get it she should put it on the counter. She was in a foul mood and didn’t want to put it on the counter. When she saw Spencer making a move toward the bottle, she got some tape and proceeded to try to tape Spencer to the stairs. When that didn’t work she drew a picture of her water bottle. She then held out her real water bottle to Spencer. Spencer ran to grab the bottle and at the last second Brooke snatched the bottle away and replaced it with her drawing. Spencer wasn’t fooled. He wasn’t happy either.
It was kind of funny, though.
Halloween Ponies
It may be eight months till Halloween but Brooke is getting ready by giving her My Little Ponies Halloween costumes.
