My Four-Year-Old
My little Caroline turned four.
She opened presents. Here she got a My Little Pony toy:
Brooke was not too happy that Caroline got the pony instead of her:
She also got a Rapunzel doll:
I love how she’s looking so lovingly at her doll in this picture:
We found out that our ward was having our annual father and kids campout on Caroline’s birthday. When I heard about this I hesitantly mentioned to Caroline that for her birthday she could go camping! And wouldn’t that be fun?! I wasn’t sure if this would go over well. If it were me, camping on my birthday would seem like a punishment, however Caroline was more than happy to have the campout be her celebration, so I was more than happy to say good-bye to both girls for the evening.
Spencer hadn’t taken a nap that day so I put him to bed early and had the entire evening all to myself. It was glorious. I surprised myself by being productive when I had planned to just veg all night. However, my kitchen floor was in serious need of mopping (as usual). I was prepared to ignore the floor until Spencer spilled juice THREE TIMES in THREE SEPARATE SPOTS making my usual spot cleaning impractical. Boo.
Then, I remembered that it was Caroline’s birthday and while we were counting camping as her party, I probably should still make her a cake. She requested Dora so this is what she got:
I was finally getting ready to go to sleep when someone decided to doorbell ditch us at 1:00 AM. It scared me to death. It was probably another hour before my heart rate settled back down to normal and I could fall asleep.
And I didn’t mean to have the campout usurp Caroline’s birthday post, but here’s another fun story. Dallas texted me the next morning saying Brooke had barfed in the middle of the night. In the tent. All over the pillows. And sleeping bags. And Caroline. Can you think of anything worse than having to clean that mess up? All Dallas was armed with was wet wipes. I’m still not quite sure how he made the tent conditions sleepable after that. I don’t even really want to think about it.
But anyway, back to Caroline.
I’ve really been appreciating my little Caroline these days. She is so mellow, so easy-going, so sweet. I feel like it’s easy for her to get lost in the shuffle between a somewhat demanding, spirited older sister and the baby of the family who naturally gets attention for being the smallest and neediest. She takes it all in stride, though. She is such a calm, peaceful child. She is so attentive to Spencer and has taken to watching out for him when he needs help. I can send her out into public with complete confidence that she’ll be kind, obedient, polite, and helpful. She is a beautiful blessing in our lives and we love her.

When I read just the title of your post on my blog list, I thought, “Wow! I can’t believe Brooke is already four!”
Ha. Blonde moment. I forget that kids grow up! I REALLY can’t believe Caroline is already four!
She is such a pretty, sweet, fun little girl. Loved reading all the things you had to say about her. Happy birthday Caroliney!

Caroline is such a beautiful child! Love those dimples! Loved all the things you said about her. She is truly a very sweet, thoughtful, obedient child.
Now, on to Brooke… I just knew what she was thinking before you even said it when I saw the expression on her face as she is watching Caroline getting some ponies. So funny!! I think she thinks she has the domain on all the My Little Ponies in the world. Just wondering if she has confiscated Caroline’s ponies yet?
LOVE the Dora cake!

One other comment and this one is reporting what my mother said about Dallas’s last three photos. She LOVES them and thinks they are so very beautiful. She says Dallas is a great photographer.
