Golden Art
I’ve been storing up kid artwork for a while, so here’s a post dedicated to our aspiring artists/graphic novelists.
Brooke’s school papers continue to be used (for better or for worse) as her sketch pad:
Holidays bring out her creativity:
She saw our bananas and couldn’t resist giving them a little personality:
And then we have the endless doodles and comics she draws on every scrap of paper she can find:
Caroline isn’t quite as prolific of an artist, but she does do cute drawings as well:
Spencer enjoys drawing also. Here we have a self portrait:
Another child who can’t resist doodling at school:
Spencer went through a phase where he was really into flags. He’d look up pictures of different flags and recreate them in miniature:
Lately Madison has been joining the artistic ranks.
Madison drew this one in church. Her friend Norah is sad, so she’s giving Norah a doll to make her happy:
This princess got caught in a rainstorm and wasn’t happy:
Madison brought this paper home from preschool. I was shocked at the adorableness of that zebra and had to text her preschool teacher to see if Madison actually drew that. Turns out she did draw it all by herself. It’s especially surprising how good her zebra is when you compare it to the other two animal blobs beside it.
One day we played Pictionary as a family. We told Madison she could draw whatever she wanted. The category was “animal.” She drew this:
After guessing every animal we could think of we finally asked Madison what it was. Her response? A giraffe. I continue to chuckle to myself every time I think of her neckless giraffe.

Seven-Year-Old Spencer
Spencer turned seven!
His favorite food lately is cheeseburgers. The week of his birthday he earned a pass to get a free burger at the Burger King right by our house, so I busted him out of school, and we had a fun lunch date.
We went to a bounce house place to play for hours after school. This is the only picture I got of him. A moment earlier he had been smiling at the camera. He wasn’t able to hold that pose long as he was itching to get bouncing again. At least you can still see the remnants of the thumbs up he was giving me:
Slushies are mandatory after all that bouncing:
Spencer has turned into the cutest little artist. I was impressed with the bird he was able to draw after looking at the picture in his bird book:
One day we had been driving in the car for a while. I noticed Spencer had been quiet. I found him meditating:
We sure love this sweet little guy!

ooooooooohhhhhh. I kind of like the potpourri sans captions. These pictures spoke for themselves and they were all so cute.
Caroline looks so pretty in that one of her and Brooke with Brooke wearing the glasses.
And I can’t say I haven’t seen a similar scene played out in my house with a lineup of cars taking over my living room. Love that little boys are so inclined to make car lineups.
I wondered if Brook-E’s shirt was photoshopped or if that was a real shirt when I first saw the picture. Love that it’s a real shirt! I feel like that has a back story I’ve never heard before but I’m suddenly interested in.
And little Madison is not so little anymore! Such a doll!

The story behind the Brook-E shirt is as follows:
One Halloween Dallas wanted us to dress up as the Wall-E family. (This was at the height of Brooke’s Wall-E obsession.) His idea was we would all wear shirts like that saying Dadd-E, Momm-E, Brook-E, Carolin-E, and Spenc-E. I can’t remember why this idea never totally panned out, but he made a Brook-E shirt that was too big (the one Brooke is wearing in that picture). When we were cleaning out our basement we found it again. And yes, she has worn it to school already.
